On Awareness
Take notes.
Why does awareness of the present moment matter? Especially during transitions?
But before awareness, I want to talk about being observant.
Not being observant in the sense of being aware of your surroundings, noting every detail, although that also in moderation, is a good habit. But I'm talking about noticing. Taking notes.
Notice the day that is being gifted to you, giving you another chance to do things in different ways, or the same way, if it’s working for you.
The kind of noticing that makes you pause, yes. But it also gives you perspective.
Why is perspective what we need now, more than ever?
Because the world is crazy, loud, busy, and it won’t give you a chance to pause and fully absorb this very moment you are in, unless you seek it yourself.
What I mean when I say noticing I mean mindfully taking notes of what this moment is trying to tell you, and what your brain wants to do with this information.
Awareness.
A word that has been talked about a lot.
I care about the awareness that leads us to something precious: the ability to live this moment fully.
How does all this help make the current season, transition, or chapter—whatever you call it—easier, better, more impactful, or transformative?
Let’s start from the top.
Noticing is to slow down enough to see the details of your everyday life. It’s the sunlight on your skin, while doing something you love, like what I'm doing right now, writing by the waters on a cool sunny day, realizing that this is a blessing that I should not take for granted.
It’s the small relief in a deep breath after a long day with a boss who isn't making it easy on you to catch a breath, or the feeling of holding a warm mug as you think about your next step. These tiny moments stitch together your life in real time. They pull you out of autopilot and into presence.
Awareness is what follows. It’s the understanding that this moment, however small, has meaning. It may not solve all your worries, but it gives you a sense of groundedness and clarity. And in times of transition, when routines are shifting, uncertainty is high, and emotions can feel tangled, this clarity acts as a compass.
Being aware doesn’t erase the challenges of a new chapter, but it allows you to meet them with steadiness. It reminds you that even while everything is changing, you can still show up for yourself now, in this breath, in this step, in this day.
If you are entering a new chapter, here is one practical action:
Take five or ten minutes each morning to simply notice one thing about your life that you usually overlook, and write it down. It doesn't have to be a big act, but a meaningful one that perhaps changing it can help make this moment more certain.
This small practice anchors you in awareness, and it will carry you forward with both calm and purpose.
Below, I'm also attaching an easy grounding activity. It takes a few minutes to do, but its impact on your clarity throughout the day is noticeable.
Take care,
Doaa
